Some thoughts I had while reading this

  • Zweig had some shinning moments in this book. There are some scenes which are so vivid I can still feel them weeks after reading the book.
    • The father in his small apartment in Berlin
    • The description of Berlin
    • The scene by the lake where they touched for the first time
  • The theme and story are entertaining yet not really the point. What is really interesting is Zweig’s ability to get inside the mind of his characters.
